I am pleased to announce the release of many upgrades to the custom lists of Listal. Here are some of the changes implemented.

New list display styles

List stats

Quickly see how many how many movies you have watched or books you have read from the list you are viewing, click the linked numbers to instantly filter the list.

List filtering

Instantly filter the list.

New header

The new header is cleaner and allows more room for long list titles.

Better thumbnails for lists

If you include images in your lists the list thumbnail will show one of these to better represent the list

List sections

I have added the ability to create different sections in a list. Each section can have it’s own title and description and own style as illustrated below.

Rearranging sections

To add items to a different section you just need to drag each item to the section tabs. You can also click on a section and add items by searching and dragging.

Search improvements

You can now add items directly to the start or end of list (or list section) by clicking the plus icons.

Adding TV movies to movie lists

You can now add TV items to movies lists or movies to TV lists.

More list options

There how now many options to set how your list is displayed

– Reverse list number
– Default list sorting
– Thumbnail selection
– Hide your rating from the list note

Load more items

Load more items at the bottom of each list quickly loads more items to the list your are viewing.

I am currently working on updates to the Listal custom lists, here are the updates that have been finished so far!

New header

List sections

I have added the ability to create different sections in a list. Each section can have it’s own title and description and own style as illustrated below.

There are also loads of new improvements like:

– Change the default list picture
– Set the default sort of your list
– Filter lists
– Adding TV movies to movie lists

I have now released the new item and person page designs announced 2 months ago!

The pages have been completely redesigned, some of the changes are listed below.

The top of the page now has redesigned links, the left side of the page is for top voted content and the right side is for new updates and general information (top show below)

Add content quickly and easily – You can now add reviews, videos and images without refreshing the page.

Custom list box – You now add to a custom lists where ever you can add to a standard list, the box will also show which lists you have already added the item to.

Update feed There is now a update feed for every page, with corresponding rss feed.

New person page item design – Quickly see the top Movies/Music/Books from any Actor, artist or author.

Movie count stats See how many movies you have watched from a Actor or Actress.

New friends panel See how many friends have rated or listed a item

Other changes:

New view all link for the update feed, view all updates in a group.

I’ve restarted this blog for 2010, over the next few months I will be going through each page on the site and improving the design and implementing as many features as possible that have been suggested in the Listal forums.

Soon I will be releasing a suggestions submission section where people can add suggestions for each page on the site, it will be like the suggestions forum but better organized with the ability to vote on suggestions.

At the moment I am working on a redesign of the item page and the view list page will probably follow after.

Here is a preview of the new item page. The basic concept of this new design is to put all the key information and links at the top of the page, the top voted content on the left and the most recent updates on the right.  Many things may be missing from this design and may change  as it’s not finished yet.
